Hawassa University has launched its brand new software called Student Information System to strengthen teaching learning process.
The software is mainly designed and developed by the ICT Directorate Staffs of the university. It has two kinds of version to satisfy the user requirements. These are the desktop application and web based system. The software was developed for the Registrar and Alumni Directorate and other teachers/ lecturers and students to process and manipulate the student records in short period of time that helps to strengthen the teaching learning process.
In addition to this the system has auto update functionality which helps to fix bugs and repair as the error occurs and the update is required. Therefore system has the following additional features:

- Top notch Report styles
- Top notch scratch and custom search support
- Ad-hoc reporting
- New web based student service system
- Online grade reporting system
- Extremely easy way of conversion in working with ECTS and Conventional grading system
- Allows decentralization of information dissemination
- Strong multi-level security system
- Allows secure account transfer for selected office tasks when necessary
- Encryption implementation for secure data like passwords and log files
- Alert responsible personnel during sensitive data update on the centralized database and putting all necessary information regarding the change made.

To sum up the system is expected to increase the efficiency of the college’s record management, decrease time required to access and deliver student records, decrease data duplication, increase data integrity, increase user access and convenience, decrease time spent on non-value added tasks and increase ability of staff to better serve the student population.
Developers of the system are Simon Tiruneh, Getachew Kumara, Dessalegn Mengesha and Samuel Tesfaye.
