Our FIG Awassa Initiative’s goal is to (i) keep families together, (ii) educate their children and (iii) strive for independence through income generation projects and animal husbandry programs.  We work in Awassa and the surrounding areas in the Sidama region of Ethiopia to provide for the basic needs of children and families. Some of the children live at the Ajuuja Children’s Home while others live alone or with their families.
We want our families to know that they are loved and prayed for and that they are loved by a God who sacrificed everything for them and loves them more than we can comprehend.
The FIG program (Family In the Gap) is the program that connects families in the U.S. to families in Awassa, Ethiopia. Letters, care packages, and trips to meet FIG families are encouraged.  Depending on where a family lives, assistance is tailored to their specific needs but may include food, education, clothing, and spiritual support. $30 per month is all it takes to literally change lives!  The FIG Awassa program delivers HOPE!!
Enabling Independence is Project HOPEFUL Awassa’s income generation program.  The ladies in our program are “active poor” and have the physical and mental capability to run a business or work.  They are arranged in groups of ten ladies who are trained together and participate in a support group where they are accountable to one another.  The women are required to save money and are overseen by an Ajuuja Children’s Home Association staff member who provides instruction and encouragement. Your one-time gift of $250 will provide a woman the funds and tools to begin a business that will enable her to keep her family together while providing for their needs.
Animals!  In the last fiscal year, Project HOPEFUL Awassa purchased over $4,000 in goats for families in and around Awassa!  We are ready to provide to families a young cow for breeding for just $120. This cow can provide milk and the possibility for calves.

Education is a key component of our Awassa program.  Malaria, HIV, hygiene and other educational workshops are provided to families in the program. Pretreated mosquito nets provide lifesaving protection from malaria carrying mosquitoes and can be donated for $12 each.
The staff at Ajuuja Children’s Home is committed to the physical and spiritual well-being of the poorest people of Awassa and the Sidama region.  Project HOPEFUL’s FIG Awassa Initiative provides them with the means to complete and expand this commitment through generous donors just like you. You can give one time donations to our general fund to help fund special needs.  We have several children that need extra food supply and others that require additional medical care.
You can be a monthly donor of any amount to help fund projects and children who do not have a FIG yet.
Every single dollar helps deliver hope.
