Shiferaw’s Cadres and Police Forces are brutalizing Sidama Civilians in Dale and Malga Districts

About 3 Sidama http://www.sidama.org/persecution/2012-07-17-meles-authorites-stillterrorising-
sidama-civilians-while-health-deteorates.pdf civilians who were arrested at the
demonstration in Yirgalem on 17th of July 2012 in allegation of organizing and
coordinating the demonstration were released at a later stage without the choice of
authorities. The Sidama people shown their indefatigability when they peacefully pushed
with their demand for their immediate release. They told the culprits that they don’t leave
police station unless they release the arrested Sidamas and emphasized that the
question is a regional self-administration about which all Sidama people are unanimously
demanding. Before the release of the arrestees, the Sidamas threatened to take united
actions if the polices don’t release their people. As a result of their untied efforts the
Sidamas reclaimed their sons before midnight.
However, the happiness only short lived as on the 18th of July 2012 during an early
morning hours the regime re-arrested those who were released & others 2 Sidama
people were making all 5. The regime’s forces did so after reinforcing their power with
additional new federal forces. The names of the arrestees include:-
1. Kaayamo Laafo, Farmer
2. Tesafye Kiciba, Teacher
3. Behailu W/Mariam ?
4. Dawit Ugamo, Agriculture/Rural development worker
5. Zerihun Gezahegn, Post Graduate student from Dilla University.
Sidama people didn’t give in, in today case as well. They protested and demanded the
release of Sidamas who were illegally arrested whilst claiming their constitutional rights
that all Sidamas currently are demanding. Dale district administrator and political cadre
told Sidama demonstrators that they will respond to their question after a mid day.
However, they didn’t do so until 5pm local time when the cadres told them that it is not
them who arrested the said people; the orders are from the above over which they don’t
have control. By telling this they further reveal how pretty puppets they are.
After 5:15pm local time, Sidama people who’re the representatives of all farmers
associations within the Dale district threatened administrator and political cadre
emphasizing that from that time onwards the Sidama people don’t allow any body who is
affiliated with the regime to go anywhere around their associations unless they release
the arrested Sidamas. They reiterated that the issue about the regional self
administration is the quest of 6 million Sidamas; therefore it will be pointless for the
regime to arrest 5 people instead of arresting all 6 million. The anger, frustration and
outrage were palpable when the Sidama people left Hirgalamete barrshee mine
(Yirgalem Prison).
In another development, around 7pm local time another 4 Sidama people were arrested
in Malga district where the resistance remains fierce for the last 7 and a half weeks after
the introduction of TPLF/EPRDF’s Manifesto on the 4th of June 2012 on uprooting
Sidama people from their capital city, Hawassa. The detail of their imprisonment is to be
brought to the attentions of Sidama audiences once we obtain it anytime throughout the
night.
Today the Sidama Zone cadres held a meeting with most of their Sidama zone cells
representatives in Hawassa. The cadres lectured their loyalists by telling them that ‘the
issue of Hawassa never be brought back any longer as it is set aside and finalised; no
one takes Hawassa away from Sidama people; therefore you must go and tell this news
to all Sidama people’. The said cells representatives’ didn’t say anything apart from
listening to the cadre’s fabrications. Some of the attendees went in to know what the
regime’s cadres plan against Sidama people are so that the Sidamas counter their
maliciously illegal acts.
Million Mathewos (the Sidama Zone puppet president -whose father sacrificed his
precious life for the cause of Sdiama people) was found saying to the attendees ‘don’t
listen to confusions that is being rumored in Sidama region about the regional
autonomy’. He tells utter lies pertaining reality about the issues surrounding federalizing
Hawassa. In TPLF’s party herald/News paper where Million conducted an interview
yesterday, he didn’t mention the issue of Sidama people’s quest for regional self
administration denying the existence of such a thing.
Meanwhile, Sidama university students and youth movements’ requests were denied by
the Zone cadres. The Youth and University students have asked to attend tomorrow’s
(19, July 2012) Sidama elders (Sidamu ciimeyyee) meetings to be held in Hawassa with
the Sidama Zone cadres where the elders have scheduled a week ago to formalize their
quest for regional self administration that was pending since 2005’s election when
Meles Zenawi utterly deceived them. The students are said to be so furious about this
and advised Sidama Ciimeyyee that they must stick to their previously raised questions.
Finally, sources from Addis Ababa reveal that Junedin Sado’s wife was caught red
handed carrying explosives at Addis Abeba’s Anwar Mosque yesterday as she was there
for the customary prayer. After the device was discovered by the security forces at the
hand of the loyalist’s wife, the regime’s cadres were shocked. Immediately, Junedin Sado
himself intervened and took responsibility. The authorities were said to be waiting for
their ailing ruler to give his final verdict on this critical issue whilst himself is critically ill- if
he at all can utter a word. It’s unclear whether his wife consciously decided to carry such
sensitive item at the very sensitive time or she was set up by the regime’s intelligences
personnel to allege Junedin’s wife affiliation with Muslim community whose resistances
is causing havoc to the regime.
