Ethiopian coffee industry recieves a boost for 2014

Ethiopia is the birthplace of Coffea arabica, the ‘mountain coffee’, and is some of the best tasting commercially produced type of coffee in the world. Now, people associated with the coffee trade in the African nation will be celebrating the start of this year in style after humanitarian groups combined in order to bring funding for a new facility near the central-southern town of Yirgachefe (also transliterated as Irgachefe), securing around two-hundred jobs in the process. Ethiopian coffee group  METAD  will run the site after securing the investment from a project initiated by the East Coast Impact Angel Network (EIAN), and facilitated by the U.S Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Agricultural Growth Program which aims to secure and develop industrial growth in hard-to-reach areas where food and medical supplies are limited. Ethiopia: Modjo-Hawassa Highway Project to Launch Soon

Preparations are underway to launch the construction work on the 4-lane dual carriageway Modjo-Hawassa highway project, Walta Information Center reported citing the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA). The 210-km highway project will be implemented in four phases. The first phase consists of the construction of Modjo-Meki new asphalt road and the second phase includes the construction of asphalt road between Meki-Zeway, according to the Ethiopian Roads Authority. The third and fourth phases of the project consist of the construction of new asphalt road between Zeway-Arsi Negele and Arsi Negele-Hawassa. The construction of the 56-km Modjo-Meki new asphalt road will be financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the government of Ethiopia. Financing agreement in underway between the government of Ethiopia and the Korean Exim Bank for the construction of the 37-km Meki-Zeway road, the Authority's Communication Director said.
