A delegation of professors from the southern states of the US, including former US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tibor Najy, met with Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros today (October 10). The delegation, from universities which specialize in science and technology, has been on a week-long tour to Addis Ababa ,Dire Dawa, Adama and Hawassa Universities, to explore ways to forge partnerships between universities in Ethiopia and the US. The delegation members expressed their admiration at the tremendous leap Ethiopia has made in increasing the number of universities from 2 to 32 over the past two decades. They noted the importance of supplementing this massive expansion in higher education with efforts focused on the development of the associated faculties. They noted the need to address problems in relation to a lack of instrumentation, the importance of a strategy to retain staff and the need to poay competitive salaries.
