Following Hawassa University’s Senate decision to bestow an Honorary Doctoral Degree to Mr.Yohei Sasakawa on July 14, 2012, Ethiopian ambassador to Japan His Excellency Mr. Markos Tekle awarded the Doctor of Agriculture Development Honoris Causa and Medal to Mr.Yohei Sasakawa, Chair of the Nippon Foundation,on an official ceremony held at the Ethiopian Embassy in Tokyo On December 12, 2012. Mr. Sasakawa was not able to travel to Ethiopia for health reasons. On the awarding ceremony held at Ethiopian Embassy in  Tokyo Japan, His Excellency Markos Tekle said Sasakawa Global has played a significant role in his country in minimizing the rate of famine, in enabling many people to be self- sufficient in food, in protecting natural resources and generally in the development of the country.  The ambassador added that the Sasakwa Program being financed by Nippon Foundation has brought many Sub- Sahara African countries out of poverty. አዋሳ ጥር 08/2005 (ዋኢማ)  - በደቡብ ክልል በመጪው ሚያዝያ በሚካሄደው የአከባቢ ምርጫ እስካሁን ከሁለት ሚሊዮን 400 ሺህ የሚበልጥ ህዝብ ተመዝግቦ ካርድ መውሰዱን በብሄራዊ ምርጫ ቦርድ የክልሉ ቅርንጫፍ ጽህፈት ቤት ገለጸ።  ኃላፊው አቶ አብርሃም ገዴቦ ዛሬ ለኢትዮጵያ ዜና አገልግሎት እንደገለጹት እስከትናንት ከሁለት ሚሊዮን 400 ሺህ በላይ መራጮች ተመዝግበው ካርድ ወስደዋል፡፡  ካርድ ከወሰዱት መካከል አንድ ሚሊዮን 168ሺህ የሚሆኑት ሴቶች መሆናቸውንም ገልጸዋል፡፡ መራጮቹ ምዝገባ ያደረጉት በክልሉ 14 ዞኖች፣ 4 ልዩ ወረዳዎችና በ22 የከተማ አስተዳደር በተቋቋመው 8ሺህ 130 ምርጫ ጣቢያዎች መሆኑን ገልፀው በክልሉ ሰባት ሚሊዮን መራጮች ይመዘገባሉ ተብሎ እንደሚጠበቅም አስታውቀዋል፡፡  በሁሉም ምርጫ ጣቢያዎቹ 40 ሺህ ስድስት መቶ ምርጫ አስፈፃሚዎች የምርጫውን ስራ ለማስፈፀም እየሰሩ መሆኑን ጠቁመው በተመሳሳይ ቁጥርም የህዝብ ታዛብዎች ተመርጠው እየሰሩ መሆናቸውን ገልፀዋል፡፡  የአከባቢ ምርጫ ሰላማዊ፣ ነፃና ዲሞክራሲያዊ ሆኖ እንዲካሄድ በየደረጃው የሚገኙ የመንግስት አስፈፃሚዎች፣ የሙያ ማህበራት፣ ህብረተሰቡና ሌሎች የባለድርሻ አካላት የድርሻቸውን እንዲያበረክቱ ኃላፊው ጥሪ አቅርበዋል፡፡  የምርጫ አስፈፃሚዎች በበኩላቸው ህዝቡ ዛሬ ነገ ሳይል በመራጭነት ተመዝግቦ በህገ መንግስቱ የተረጋገጠለትን መብት መጠቀም እንዳለበት አሳስበዋል፡፡  http://www.waltainfo.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7034:----400-----&catid=58:2011-08-29-12-55-21&Itemid=383

አዲስ አበባ ጥር 14/2005 በመጪው ሚያዚያ ወር 2005 ዓ.ም ለሚካሄደው የአካባቢና የከተማ አስተዳደሮች ምርጫ የመራጮች ምዝገባ እንደቀጠለ ነው። በዘጠኙ ክልሎችና በሁለቱ የከተማ አስተዳደሮች ከታህሳስ 22 እስከ ጥር 13 /2005 ዓ.ም ድረስ በተካሄደው የመራጮች ምዝገባ 23 ሚሊዮን የሚጠጉ መራጮች መመዝገባቸውን የምርጫ ቦርድ አስታወቋል፡፡ የቦርዱ የህዝብ ግንኙነት ማስተባበሪያ ምክትል ኃላፊ አቶ ይስማ ጅሩ ዛሬ ለኢትዮጵያ ዜና አገልግሎት እንደገለጹት ከተመዘገቡት መራጮች መካከል 10 ሚሊዮን 794 ሺህ የሚሆኑት ሴቶች ናቸው፡፡ ቦርዱ በአጠቃላይ በሃገር አቀፍ ደረጃ ለመምረጥ ይመዘገባል ተብሎ ከሚጠበቀው ከ28 ሚሊዮን በላይ መራጭ መካከል 83 በመቶ የሚሆኑት የመራጭነት ካርድ መውሰዳቸውንም ጠቁመዋል፡፡ በተለያየ ምክንያት የመራጭነት ካርድ ያልወሰዱ መራጮችም በቀሪዎቹ 10 ቀናት የመራጭነት ካርዱን እንዲወስዱ ጥሪ አቅርበዋል። http://www.ena.gov.et/Story.aspx?ID=4804&K=1

Legesse Lanikamo, secretary of the Sidama Liberation Movement, says his party decided to participate in the election "after a long discussion with the Sidama people," although he still vows allegiance to the cause of the 33 parties.   On the press conference held at the head office of the Blue party on Tuesday, Asrat Tase, the chairperson of the 33 parties and Gebru Gebremariam, executive member of Medrek, declared that they will be taking their case to the court if the election board does not accept their claim. Only five of the 33 parties that are in dispute with the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, have collected their candidature symbols for the local election, which may not see the participation of the remaining 28 parties.
