Hawassa, April 6, 2011 (Hawassa) - Hawassa University said it is undertaking some 62 expansion projects at a cost of 408 million birr. University plan and program head Dr.Tsegaye Bekele told ENA that the expansion projects would enable the university to accommodate the ever increasing students. The expansion projects are underway in main, agriculture, health science and Wondo Genet campuses. The expansion includes the construction of dormitory, library, asphalt and cobblestone works, laboratory and other facilities. Similarly, he said some 10 projects out of 33 launched last year at a cost of 540 million birr have already completed. Upon fully operational the projects, the university would enroll new 2,500 postgraduates’ students in the coming academic year. Currently, the university is enrolling 17,000 students in postgraduates programs, he said.

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) awarded two parts of the construction of the second phase of the Mombassa-Nairobi-Addis Abeba Road corridor to an Egyptian based construction company, at a cost of around 740.7 million Br, on Wednesday, March 29, 2011. The ERA also signed comprehensive road project agreements worth a total of 2.6 billion Br with four local companies for the construction of 242.8km of roads in Tigray and Amhara regional states. The Hagere Mariam-Mega asphalt road rehabilitation and 94.5km Hagere Mariam-Yabelo concrete pavement construction projects, both in Oromia Regional State, were awarded to Arab Contractors (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co). Both form part of the Mombassa-Nairobi-Addis Abeba corridor, an important part of the Trans-African Highway between Cairo and Cape Town. Today March 19 ,2011 at 11:09 PM earthquake happened at yirgalem its real earth quake (shake) it didn’t cause any disaster as far as I have seen it, but everybody felt it for 4 seconds. It was the longest quake I have witnessed in my life. Everything in my house was  shaking. Some books were dropped to the floor. Electric power also gone for 10 minutes .and I fell the shake at 7:57 am for 1 second again . UPDATE 20/03-01:09 UTC :  The shaking lasted for about 4 seconds. Original article

በዓይነቱና በይዘቱ ለየት ያለውን ዘመናዊ የሐዋሳ ሁለገብ ስታዲየም ግንባታ ለማስጀመር የተካሄደው የማስታወቂያ ፕሮግራም ሳምንታትን አስቆጥሯል፡፡ስራውን በተግባር ለመጀመር አንድ ነገር ቀርቶ ነበር፡፡ የሁለገብ ስታዲየሙን ግንባታ ገቢ አሰባሳቢና አስተዳደር ምክር ቤትን ማቋቋም፡፡ እሱም ባለፈው እሁድ በሐዋሳ ሃይሌ ሪዞልት እውን ሆኗል፡፡   ምክር ቤቱ የተቋቋመው የክልሉ ከፍተኛ አመራሮች ፣ የሐዋሳ ከተማ፣ የዞንና የልዩ ወረዳ አስተዳደሮች፣ ባለሐብቶች እና የሃይማኖት አባቶች በተገኙበት ነበር፡፡ የምክር ቤቱን መቋቋም ተከትሎ ግንባታውን ለማስጀመር የገቢ ማሰባሰብ ሂደቱ ምን ይሁን በሚለው ላይ ሰፋ ያለ ውይይት ከተደረገ በኋላ ሐዋሳ ስታዲየም ቴሌቶን 2003 በሚል ስያሜ የክልሉ ርዕሰ መስተዳድር አቶ ሽፈራው ሽጉጤ የስራውን በይፋ መጀመር አብስረዋል፡፡ ለሁለገብ ስታዲየሙ ግንባታ እውን መሆን የክልሉ ህዝብ ፣ ከአገር ውስጥ እና ውጭ የሚኖሩ ኢትዮጵያውያን መረባረብ እንደሚጠበቅባቸው ጥሪ አስተላልፈዋል፡፡ 28 ሄክታር መሬት ላይ ያርፋል ተብሎ የሚጠበቀው ሰታዲየሙ አለም አቀፍ ደረጃውን የጠበቀ ሲሆን እስከ 45 ሺህ መቀመጫ ያለው የእግር ኳስ ሜዳ፣ ዘመናዊ የአትሌቲክስ መወዳደሪያ እና ሌሎች 16 ዓይነት የስፖርት ውድድሮችን ማስተናገድ የሚችል ሜዳ ያካትታል፡፡ ለግንባታው እስከ 700 ሚሊዮን ብር ሊጠይቅ ይችላልም ተብሏል፡፡ ይህ የከልሉ ህዝብ ታሪክ የሆነው ስታዲየም ግንባታ የ 56 ቱም ብሄረሰቦች መገለጫ ሙዚየም በመሆኑ የዞን እና ወረዳ አስተዳደሮችም ህብረተሰቡን በማሳተፍ የበኩላቸውን ድጋፍ ለመወጣት በቁርጠኝነት ለመስራት ዘግጁ መሆናቸውን አስታውቀዋል፡፡
