(Bloomberg) -- Ethiopian prosecutors have failed to present evidence relating to charges that a group of bloggers and journalists support terrorism, a defense lawyer at the latest court hearing said. Six members of the Zone 9 blogging group and three freelance journalists were charged in July at the Federal High Court in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, for working with banned organizations such as the U.S.-based Ginbot 7, which the Horn of Africa nation categorizes as a terrorist group. A witness on Wednesday testified that police last year collected a political manifesto from a Health Ministry office, where one of the defendants worked, lawyer Ameha Mekonnen said. “No witness is brought who has either direct or indirect knowledge of the material element of the charge,” Ameha said in an interview. “The witnesses are here to prove that there was no maltreatment or pressure when the search was conducted.” The defendants are the latest government critics to be tried under Ethiopi

Cairo — Algeria is to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2017) qualifiers in Group J, which also includes the football national teams of Lesotho, Ethiopia and Seychelles. The continental tournament will be hosted by Gabon, as a result of a draw held Wednesday on the sidelines of an ordinary meeting held by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo, Egypt. Algeria was one of three candidates applying for the hosting of the CAN 2017. The two others were Ghana and Gabon. The qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations 2017 will start next June.

The Ethiopian Economic Association/EEA/ organized a day conference on the Economic development of Southern Nations and Nationalities Peoples Regional State for the fifth round on 27 March 2015 in collaboration with EEA Hawassa chapter. The conference was opened by welcoming address of Yosph Mamo (PhD), President of Hawassa University, and Demirew Getachew, Head EEA Secretariat. This was followed by an official opening statement by Ato Aklilu Tukala, Deputy of SNNPR BoFED. The Ethiopian Economic Association Hawassa Chapter comprises four member universities, namely Dilla University, Wolaita Sodo University, Arba Minch and Wachamo University.
