Ecco’s Brazilian coffee is just about done at all locations. That means we are moving to Counter Culture for our next guest coffee. It’s been fun getting to know these guys. They roast their beans down in Durham, North Carolina. I am so excited about this coffee. It is from a great coffee growing region in the southern part of Ethiopia, called Sidama. The name of the coffee is Shilicho which translates to “Good Taste” in Sidama. Not as wild as some other coffees from Ethiopia (Yirgacheffe), which can be very sour with varying degrees of fruitiness. This one is sort of sweet, round, and vibrant. If you take cream, we suggest you try it black first. You might be surprised how it tastes. We’ll be pouring this Ethiopian coffee for the next few weeks at all our locations. After a long dry summer in 2009, the community of Aleta Wondo was worried.  When would the next rain come?  Would their crops survive the dry spell?  Would they have the food they had counted on for survival?  What would happen to the coffee crop?  The elders of Aleta Wondo approached Common River staff and requested support for a Sidama ceremony to bring rain after months of drought. They requested a cow, which is the main part of the Sidama rain-making ceremony. Working to revive Sidama culture and re-ignite respect among tribal elders, Tsegaye and I were hesitant to support the ceremony.  What would happen if the ritual did not work?  Would this further the general feeling amongst the youth and middle aged that Sidama culture is unworthy of respect and not to be believed?  It could be disparaging to the elders if it didn’t work or it could be a powerful affirmation if it did. We took a leap of faith and decided to honor their request and support their tradition. Although opposition parties continue to debate election media distribution, others advise them to fully utilise their share The National Electorate Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and the Ethiopian Broadcast Agency (EBA) have amended the ratio for allotted air time for broadcasting on radio and television, and newspaper space, for contesting parties, during the campaign period for the upcoming Addis Abeba city council and local elections. The directive that became effective on Monday, March 11, 2013, dictates that 30pc of the use of media air time and newspaper space will be allocated on the basis of the number of seats a party has in the parliaments, both at the federal and regional levels. •    ማናቸውም ሕጐችና ውሳኔዎች ከሕገ መንግሥቱ አለመጣረሳቸውን ያያል ለሕገ መንግሥት አጣሪ ጉባዔ ሰፊ ሥልጣን የሚሰጥ የሕግ ማሻሻያ ለሕዝብ ተወካዮች ምክር ቤት ቀረበ፡፡ ረቂቅ አዋጁ የጉባዔውን የሥራ አድማስ በማስፋት በማንኛውም የመንግሥት አካል በክልል መንግሥታትም ቢሆን ከሕገ መንግሥቱ የሚቃረኑ ሕጐችና ውሳኔዎች ሲወጡ በመመልከት ለፌዴሬሽን ምክር ቤት እንዲያቀርብ ያስችለዋል፡፡ ጉባዔውን ያቋቋመው የ1993 ዓ.ም. አዋጅ መጠሪያ ‹‹የፌደራሉ የሕገ መንግሥት ጉዳዮች አጣሪ አዋጅ›› የሚል ሲሆን፣ ይህ አባባል በተለይም ‹‹የፌደራሉ›› የሚለው ቃል የጉባዔውን የሥራ አድማስ በማጥበብ በማንኛውም አካል የወጣ ሕግ ከሕገ መንግሥቱ ቢቃረን የመመልከት ሥልጣን እንደሌለው ተደርጐ እንዲተረጐም ክፍተት መፍጠሩን የረቂቁ መግቢያ ያትታል፡፡ በመሆኑም የአዋጁን መጠሪያ ርዕስ በማስተካከል ‹‹የተሻሻለው የሕገ መንግሥት ጉዳዮች አጣሪ ጉባዔ አደረጃጀትና አሠራር አዋጅ›› የሚል ስያሜ ተሰጥቶታል፡፡ የጉባዔው መቋቋሚያ አዋጅን ማስተካከል ያስፈለገበትን ምክንያት የሚያትተው የረቂቁ መግቢያ፣ በተለይ መንግሥት የነደፈውን የአምስት ዓመት የዕድገትና ትራንስፎርሜሽን ዕቅድ በማሳካት ረገድ ባለው የማይተካ ሚና በሕገ መንግሥቱ ላይ የጋራ አገራዊ መግባባት የመፍጠር ኃላፊነት በሚገባ መወጣት እንዲችል በማስፈለጉ ነው ይላል፡፡ የጉባዔውን የሥራ አድማስ የሚያሰፋው የአዋጁ ክፍል ሁለት ላይ የተደረገው ማሻሻያ አጣሪ ጉባዔው ማንኛውም ሕግ፣ ልማዳዊ አሠራር፣ የመንግሥት አሠራር፣ እንዲሁም የመንግሥት አካል ወይም የባለሥልጣን ውሳኔ ከሕገ መንግሥቱ ጋር ይቃረናል የሚል ጥያቄ ሲነሳና ትርጉም የሚያስፈልገው መሆኑን ሲያምንበት፣ የደረሰበትን ውሳኔ ለፌዴሬሽን ምክር ቤት እንዲያቀርብ ይፈቅድለታል፡፡

የተባበሩት መንግሥታት ድርጅት የልማት ፕሮግራም (ዩኤንዲፒ) ባለፈው ዓርብ እዚህ ይፋ ያደረገው የዚህ ዓመት የሰብዓዊ ልማት ሪፖርት፣ የደቡባዊው ንፍቅ ትንሳዔን የሚያበስር ነበር፡፡ ስያሜውን ‹‹The Rise of the South›› በማለት የሰየመውን ሪፖርቱን ይፋ ሲያደርግ፣ የሩቅ ምሥራቅ አገሮችና ላቲኖቹ የዓለምን ሚዛን ወደራሳቸው እንዳጋደሉት በመተንተን ነው፡፡ እያደጉ ካሉ አገሮች ቻይና፣ ብራዚልና ህንድ የዓለምን የዕድገትና የኢኮኖሚ ሒደት ወደራሳቸው እንዲዘነብል ከማድረግ አልፈው፣ በሰብዓዊ ልማት ዘርፎች ቀዳሚ እየሆኑ መምጣታቸውን ልማት ፕሮግራሙ ይፋ አድርጓል፡፡ ያደጉት አገሮችን ሰሜናውያኑ እያለ የጠራቸው ይህ ሪፖርት፣ ባሉበት እየሮጡ መሆናቸውንም አመልክቷል፡፡ ሪፖርቱ በዓለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ይፋ ከተደረገ በኋላ በማግስቱ እዚህ ሲለቀቅ በኢትዮጵያ የዩኤንዲፒ ቋሚ ተወካይና የተመድ አስተባባሪ ኡውጂን ኦውሱ እንዳስታወቁት፣ የዓለም የኃይል ሚዛን ወደደቡብ ንፍቅ አዘንብሏል፡፡ በተለይ ቻይና፣ ብራዚልና ህንድ ከነብርነት በላይ የሚፈናጠር ኢኮኖሚ በመገንባታቸው ሳቢያ የኃይል ሚዛኑን ተቆጣጥረው እንደሚገኙ ተነግሮላቸዋል፡፡ ቻይና ያስዘመገበችው የመጠባበቂያ ክምችት ከሦስት ትሪሊዮን ዶላር ደርሷል፡፡ በሌላ በኩል እንደፈረንሳይ ያለው አገር የመጠባበቂያ ክምችቱ 1.3 ቢሊዮን ዶላር ብቻ ሆኖ መመዝገቡ፣ ለታዳጊዎቹ ደቡባውያን ፈርጣማነት አመላካች ነው፡፡ እንዲህ በኢኮኖሚም፣ በሰብዓዊ ልማትም የሚገሰግሱት ታዳጊ አገሮች ቢያንስ የአንድ ቢሊዮን ሕዝባቸው ድምፅ በአግባቡ እንደማይደመጥ፣ በዓለም መድረኮችም ዘንድ በአግባቡ እንዳልተወከለ ኦውሱ ይናገራሉ፡፡ ለደቡቦቹ ሕዝቦች እንደድሮው የሚቀጥል ነገር ያለ አይመስልም ያሉት ተወካዩ፣ ቻይና ብራዚልና ህንድ ያስመዘገቡት ለው
