Alemitu Heroye
Heroye and Hawi soaked it in on their victory lap EUGENE -- Alemitu Heroye of Ethiopia held off teammate Alemitu Hawi on the home straight to win the women's 5,000 meters Wednesday in the IAAF World Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field. Heroye finished in 15 minutes, 10.08 seconds. Hawi went wide coming off the final turn in a bid to pass, but Heroye held her off to win. Hawi's time was 15:10.46, a personal record. Agnes Tirop of Kenya earned the bronze medal with a third-place finish in 15:43.12. The University of Oregon's Maggie Schmaedick placed 12th in 16:19.01.
