Hawassa Kenema and Mekelaya into EFF Cup Final

Army side Mekelakeya overcame league champions and last year’s EFF Cup finalists Kidus Giorgis to book their place in the final. The game ended 2-1.
Dedebit FCKidus Giorgis took an early lead through the veteran striker Adane Girma. Adane opened the score with simple tap in. Ugandan international Brian Umony assisted the ball. It took Mekelakeya a while to get back to the game. Summer arrival Addisu Tesfaye heads home from close range to equalize the score. It was Addisu’s debut. Behailu Girma’s header in the second half earned Mekelakeya a 2-1 triumph. Firew Solomonassisted both the goals. After the end of the game some frustrated Kidus Giorgis fans at Katanga confronted with opposition fans as Police came between the two sets of fans to calm the tension.
Hawassa Kenema progressed to the final in the expense of Wolaitta Dicha in the second game of the EFF Cup semi final. Hawassa notched a victory over Dicha in a single goal margin.
Bereket Yisak’s lone goal was enough to take Hawassa to the final. Bereket returned home on the summer transfer window from Dedebit. He scored on his second debut for the club.
Mekelakeya and Hawassa Kenema will battle it out to be crowned EFF Cup champions on the coming Sunday. It is Hawassa’s first ever major final in seven years. Meanwhile, Mekelakeya’s second final in three years. Both sides will be hoping to lift the trophy to register on the next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
