Cecafa picks Ethiopia to host Challenge Cup

Cecafa secretary Musonye reveals to Goal that Kagame Cup tournament, that features clubs from the region, will be held in Kigali, Rwanda from August
This year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Senior Challenge Cup will be staged in Ethiopia from November.
Cecafa secretary Nicholas Musonye has revealed to Goal that Kagame Cup tournament, that features clubs from the region, will be held in Rwanda from August, instead of June as is normally the case.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars are Senior Challenge Cup champions after beating Sudan 2-0 in the final of last year's edition played at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Musonye said they had settled for Rwanda as Kagame Cup hosts because the tournament will concide with country's celebrations to mark 20 years since genocide. Last year’s edition, which was won by Burundi’s Vital’O, was held in Darfur, Sudan.
Since 2002, Rwanda President Paul Kagame has been the main sponsor of the tournament. The President provides $60,000 which is shared among the top three finishing teams in the annual tournament. Besides the prize money, the President also gives $15,000 for the organization of the tournament.
Musonye also confirmed as reported by Goal that the association had signed a four-year sponsorship deal with pay TV Channel SuperSport.
Musonye said the sponsorship package will observe SuperSport being broadcasting Rights holders of both Cecafa Challenge Cup and Kagame Cup respectively. "In regards to our partnership with SuperSport everything is done and dusted. We have agree on a four year deal. We also ask other firms to come in and support us."
Musonye also revealed that 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be staged in Rwanda as the country readies to host 2016 African Nations Championships (Chan) finals.
