Ethiopia: Parliament Approves PM's Appointment of New Ministers_Hailemariam appointed Shiferaw Shigute as minister of education.

House of Peoples Representatives today approved the appointment of ten ministers nominated by Prime Minister Hailmeriam Desalegn.
Before announcing his appointments, PM Hailemariam told parliamentarians that Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen is relieved of his post as minister of education. Hailemariam appointed Shiferaw Shigute as minister of education.
Shiferaw has been serving as Chief Administrator of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) since March 2006.
Redwan Hussien, who was public mobilization and participation advisor minister to the PM and head of EPRDF Secretariat, has replaced Bereket Simon as Minister of Government Communications Affairs Office. Bereket and outgoing Addis Ababa City mayor Kuma Demeksa yesterday were appointed as policy and research advisor ministers to the Prime Minister.
Workneh Gebeyehu, who was commissioner of the Federal Police Commission, is appointed as Minister of Transport replacing Diriba Kuma.
Mekonnen Manyazewal, who was minister of Industry, is replaced by Ahmed Abetew, deputy chief administrator of Amhara regional state and head of the region's Trade and Industry Bureau. Mekonnen is appointed as Commissioner of the newly established National Planning Commission.
Roman G. Sellasie, Member of Parliament and government whip, will serve as chief government whip at the house of people's representative, replacing Aster Mamo.
Demitu Hambessa, Speaker of Oromia Regional State Council (Cheffe Oromia), is appointed as the minister for Technology & Science replacing Dessie Dalke.
The vacant Ministerial position at the Ministry of Justice following the dismissal of Berhan Hailu is now filled with the appointment of Getachew Ambaye. Getachew was public relations advisor to the Addis Ababa Mayor with the rank of Deputy Mayor.
Bekir Shale's last month appointment as Director General of Ethiopian Revenues & Customs Authority (ERCA) is now made official by Hailemariam.
The house approved their nomination with one abstinence. Today's ordinary session also saw the approval of the proposed 154 billion birr budget for the 2013/14 budget year.
