Statement to Sidama youth movement

On 2009, as we all know, the children of Sidama massacred by the current prime Minister of Ethiopia Haile Mariam Desalgn, at Awassa, Loque vicinity, Sidama state and the whole sidama population response to a massacre unprecedented in its nature and scale. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of that uprising, the youth and students, the children, parents, teachers and other professionals; the workers in town, in commerce, industry and the farms; the religious community - in fact, the entire oppressed population together bound together by the blood that covered the streets of Awassa, the blood that has since soaked the soil of our motherland in even bigger quantities.

On this truly historic occasion the nation will pay fitting tribute to the young heroes and martyrs. And so the repression we experience today is not new. But as we can see today the sacrifices of those heroes and martyrs were not in vain. The declaration of eviction of Sidamas from Awassa yet another state of emergency, by Mr. Shiferaw Shiguttee and his cronies and this time across the length and breadth of the Sidama. Sidamas Should be made aware that whoever comes to Sidama must respect Sidama. There is a say, “when in Rome do as Romans do”. It is polite, and possibly also advantageous, to abide by the customs of a society when one is a visitor. It is rude for a stranger to kick out the owner and marry his wife.[...]The question of self-determination of Sidama and sacrifice continue until we attain it. This means that the EPRDF regime has wittingly or unwittingly trying to sideline the quest of sidama for its own internal administration. But we deserve it to be and we shall make sure that it is. The declaration of the state of emergency at this time means that the struggle has intensified and spread to every part of Sidama, uniting all our people against minority rule
.
The state of terrorizing Sidama today is that of the ordinary laws of woyane domination, the iron chains which have bound us hand, foot and mouth over the decades, have become inadequate to halt the mounting popular offensive against TPLF minority rule and exploitation of our land. The use of vigilantes 5 to one did not work and the yoke is broken. We have support from democratic force and other oppressed nationalities . We stand face to face not only with surrogates but with the racists Woyane and their hunchback. This helps to clear any confusion there may have been as to who we are fighting, what we are fighting and what we are fighting for. The lines are clearly drawn: the fighters for a nonracial, democratic and united Ethiopia [...]. This is the struggle the democratic movement is leading. It is the people united in action against a group of Fascists who decide the fate of Sidama without representation of Sidama through hired mercenaries of the regime.

As the struggle has grown and reached unprecedented levels of intensity, the regime, faced with the irresistible advance of the masses, decided to hire Sidamas as informants, an expression which is a distortion of reality. It is of course part of the EPRDF survival strategy that the slave master should hire slaves to save him from the revolt of the enslaved. But this strategy, like all its predecessors, has failed. Let them pay in millions to their mercenaries, nothing will change; no less the right of Sidama for Self-determination. Our enemies are salivating for our resources and they have already controlled and invested in immense amount. They are fighting to secure that, but without the will of our people there is no blessing.[...]

The stark reality of the Sidama situation is that the people are inexorably, irresistibly rising up from slavery. Victory is calling and we earnestly urge all our people to leave EPRDF to do his own thing, to defend the indefensible if he dare. Let us all rejoin the ranks and unite in action for freedom.[...] Our people must refuse to be used against their own interests, against their own future, for the perpetuation of their own domination. [...] The time has come for a showdown with the forces of oppression, repression and exploitation.

A people determined to challenge EPRDF regime in all its strength and determination. This will come to end only when people are rewarded with victory. We must sustain the momentum of our offensive for the destruction of the system and the creation of a new order in Sidama and in our country. So organize, teach, expose traitors, and lead our people to the victory.

Sidama people will triumph.
