PM HAILE MARIAM DESALEGN SHOULD BE TRIED
A concerted propaganda campaign has been launched inside and outside Ethiopia to present the new PM in Addis Abeba, Haile Mariam Desalegn as a technocrat with no history of human rights violation. Sadly, some Ethiopians have also joined this campaign and are echoing falsehood.
SOCEPP had in the past repeatedly called for the arrest and trial of Haile Mariam Desalegn as one of those responsible for the Loqqee (Hawassa) massacre of more than a hundred Sidamas on May 24/2002. Others held responsible for the massacre that no one has denied took place were and are Meles Maremo, Bereket Semon, Abadula Gemeda, Tadesse Kassa and Mulugeta Alemseged (the latter is ambassador to Italy and is accused of organizing the assassination of his own brother, Afewerk in the refugee camp, Thika, just outside of Nairobi, Kenya).
The late Meles Zenawi was also accused of approving the killings at Loqqee. As one of the top officials of the regime in the Southern region, Haile Mariam Desalegn has been implicated in numerous human rights violations. It is to be remembered too that Meles Zenawi had promised to set up an inquiry commission into the mass killing of Sidamas but had refrained from doing so.
Hence the attempt to whitewash the crimes of Haile Mariam Desalegn should be condemned with vigor. The people have not forgotten, they still justice ! Haile Mariam must be made to answer for his criems along with his accomplices.
