Today
the Sidama Nation Successfully defended its rights during the Sidama
Language symposium that took place in Sidama Capital- Hawassa, in
Sidama cultural Hall. On today's (14 August 2012) Symposium three
major decisions were made by the Sidamas independent Scholars
involving Dr Anbese from Israel's Hebrew University and Dr Yosef
Mamo, Dean at Hawassa University among others prominent Sidama
intellectuals. The deliberation of the Sidama Scholars and the entire
Sidama participants include:-
The
Sidama language is not given appropriate attention to develop to
date, it must be given the respect it deserves based on suggestions
of Sidama's international renown aforementioned linguist. The
language also must be one of the major subjects in Sidama region's
Universities. This was greed up on. To lead this project an
independent Sidama Scholars are appointed.
The
Sidama New Year (Fichche) is one of the oldest cultures that survived
under several challenges in the world, therefore, it should be
registered by the UNESCO as world heritage; to do so experts
delegated to take this forward.
Sidama
celebrated its New Year, Fichche in Hawassa's Guudumale (the settlers
later called it (Amora Gedel-the gorge of Vultures). The Sidamas
unanimously demanded the area to be renamed by its original name
'Guudumale' without precondition. The Sidama people also demanded for
the Sidama cultural monument to be erected at Guudumale as soon as
possible. There is also a task force to affect this. All Sidamas as
well as Sidama intellectuals unanimously agreed that this is the
issue that must be addressed urgently!

The
Symposium was conluded with high spirit whilst the Sidamas are
preparing to welcome for tonight's Fichche. Up on completion of the
Symposium the Sidama people went out to the streets of their capital
city and chanted with Qeexala wishing a happy Sidama New Year to
all!!
Tomorrow
there will be Cambalaalla where majority of the Sidamas flock to
their capital city to celebrate their Fichche in their Capital
Hawassa with sense of strength and victory.
